Tumala’s notable artistic projects were presented in Museum of Contemporary Art and Design – Manila, World Weather Network, Sainsbury Centre UK, Jogjakarta Biennale, ASEAN Exhibition, South Korea, Art Basel Hong Kong, Formosa Art Fair Taiwan, Cultural Center of the Philippines, UP Vargas Museum and Art Fair Philippines. Keynote Address: RPG (Role Playing Game): Being an Artist Today

What is it like to be an artist today? Imagining our role in society is vital for our shared future. Being an artist is an important role in envisioning a world we want to live in. Artists today are not limited to the medium they use, they are defined by their practice, their values, their politics and the life they experience. Tumala will discuss his art practice spanning from research-driven methodology, scientific and cultural-based work, to new media and video.

Keynote Address: Digital games as platforms for fantasy worlds

This aims to provide an overview of top AAA games with complex fantasy worlds, fictional characters, and stories, as well as the design and engineering complexity required to create such worlds. This is a prime example of where digital art meets technology. The talk will cover various aspects of computer science, such as procedural content generation, real-time rendering, and the design process of creating complex 3D levels and associated tools that support the creative vision of a game designer/game artist. Key examples will be showcased, such as the design process of Santa Monica’s Studio, the God of War series, Remedy Games’ Alan Wake 1 and 2, and then down to specific DLSU practices already being taught by DLSU GAME lab to its students, such as concepts of physically based shading, and global illumination. An accompanying workshop after the keynote is provided for those interested in hands-on activities, exposing participants to practices of industry-standard 3D-level design.
